The decision by the Generalitat comes after trains experienced several disruptions during the morning of Saturday, January 24, due to rain and wind. Although the service had been partially restored earlier, the assessment of the situation forced a complete network shutdown.
“"we have instructed the operator to suspend the Rodalies, Regional, and Mid-Distance service until there are full guarantees that mobility is safe."
The main trigger for the suspension was a significant landslide that occurred yesterday afternoon on the R1 line, specifically between Tordera and Massanet-Maçanes. This incident forced a partial closure of circulation and the implementation of alternative road transport.
Operators Adif and Renfe, along with the train drivers, argued that despite previous checks, there are still high-risk sections, especially given the adverse weather forecast. The Generalitat confirmed that once the service is recovered, it will remain free until the system is fully restored.
Given the uncertainty regarding the network status for Monday, alternative transport methods announced in recent days remain in place. Users are advised to plan their journeys and check the official website for service status before leaving home.
