A forest fire that broke out on Sunday midday in Sant Quirze Safaja, Moianès, has resulted in the confinement of approximately 700 residents and burned about 14 hectares of vegetation.

A forest fire declared this Sunday midday in Sant Quirze Safaja, in the Moianès region, has led to the confinement of approximately 700 residents from the urban center and scattered farmhouses. The proximity and rapid spread of the flames prompted Civil Protection to send an alert message to mobile phones in the municipality, asking the population to remain indoors with doors and windows closed. According to provisional estimates by the Rural Agents, the fire has scorched about 14 hectares, primarily forest land, with the remainder being agricultural terrain. The agents are investigating the causes of the fire's origin.
Coinciding with the current heatwave, the fire has necessitated the closure of the natural site of Sant Miquel del Fai to ensure visitor safety and facilitate firefighting efforts. Road closures have also been implemented on the BV-1341 near Sant Quirze Safaja, as well as access points to the C-59 and other local roads. Previously, visitors at a nearby campsite and restaurant were also confined to their facilities. The Firefighters have reported that the fire is burning with "high intensity" and has already crowned.
The fire started around one in the afternoon in a vegetated area alongside the road and above the campsite. Approximately thirty ground and air teams from the Firefighters are working in a 10-hectare area to extinguish the flames, which are advancing on two flanks. Personnel from the regional ADFs are also providing support to the fire's tail along the road. Most units are focusing on the active left flank, which is progressing through a rocky area that slows its spread.
In parallel, in Piera, within the Anoia region, firefighters are also tackling a vegetation fire among houses in a development. Additionally, burnt areas are being doused from a fire declared near the train tracks, which momentarily halted high-speed traffic between Girona and Figueres; this traffic has since been restored.
