Residents of Moià have formed the platform Per un Moià viu to promote the vote against the expansion of the slaughterhouse and the biogas plant ahead of the popular consultation on January 11.

The creation of the citizen collective follows the publication of the mayoral decree calling for the non-binding popular consultation in Moià, scheduled for January 11, from 9 AM to 7 PM, at Les Faixes. The platform aims to inform the public about the project and its potential impacts, framing the consultation as a decisive moment to choose the future model of the town.

The expansion of the slaughterhouse and the biogas plant would consolidate a highly polluting swine macro-industry model based on precarious employment.

The 'No' proponents point out that Moià would bear the environmental impacts, such as gases and odors, without generating the waste intended for treatment at the biogas plant. The platform also maintains that the option proposed by the governing team would primarily benefit the slaughterhouse owner, without clear positive repercussions for the municipality as a whole.
The Per un Moià viu collective advocates for a municipal model prioritizing health, well-being, and the protection of the natural and historical environment. They maintain that alternatives exist to regulate the Polígon del Prat industrial park without needing to double its size.
To disseminate their arguments, the platform has organized the talk Informa't per votar (Inform yourself to vote), focusing on the regulation of the Polígon del Prat and the slaughterhouse expansion. The event will take place next Saturday, January 20, at 6 PM at the Auditori de Sant Josep.
