The town of Alcanar is preparing for the Sant Jordi 2026 celebration with an extensive cultural program running from April 19 to 25, a result of collaboration between the City Council, the Trinitari Fabregat Library, and the local cultural community.

Under the slogan 'Give culture, give books', the initiative aims to bring culture closer to all audiences. The main activities will be concentrated on April 23 in Alcanar's Plaça Major and Les Cases d'Alcanar's Plaça Sant Pere, where the traditional Sant Jordi fairs with books and roses will be set up, and local authors will sign their works.

"This year's program reflects the cultural dynamism of the municipality. We have an agenda for all audiences, combining literature, music, theater, and family activities. Sant Jordi is a unique opportunity to bring culture closer to citizens and to highlight local creators."

Xavier Barrera · Councillor for Culture
The program will kick off on Sunday, April 19, with a performance by the Alba Careta Group, a renowned contemporary jazz ensemble, at the Teatre Auditori José Antonio Valls at 7:00 PM. On April 22, the Trinitari Fabregat Library will host a bookmark creation workshop and the presentation of the book Dos pams de saó. Un ruixat de records by Joan-Josep Sancho i Esteller. Concurrently, the Les Cases Library will offer 'L'Hora del conte' (Story Time) for younger audiences.
The central day, April 23, will see the Sant Jordi fair stalls open at 9:00 AM. In the Plaça Major, there will be author signings from 12:30 PM to 7:30 PM, and performances by the String Orchestra and the Youth Band of the Alcanar Municipal School of Music (EMMA), culminating with the Cor Iúbilo. In Les Cases d'Alcanar, Nou contes nous by Aroa Rovira Roig and El toro enamorado de la luna with lo Chordi will be presented, alongside an open mic poetry session and the children's show 'La Gallina Josefina'.
Activities will continue on April 24 with the Correllengua Agermanat at the Trinitari Fabregat Library and the 'En ruta pel Rocall' experience, a tour through Alcanar's old town combining art, literature, gastronomy, and heritage, concluding with a concert by Khalifa Rumba. The program will close on April 25 with the play La Mestra at the Teatre Auditori José Antonio Valls.
