The works tendered by Ports de la Generalitat have a budget of 4,285,000 euros and an execution period of eight months. The main objective is to improve the protection of the port infrastructure, reducing internal agitation and preventing strong waves from overtopping the counter-dike, which affects vessels moored in the inner basin.
The intervention involves the extension of the shelter dike and the construction of an internal anti-reflection breakwater, located perpendicularly at the end of the dike. This technical solution resulted from studies carried out at the University of A Coruña, finalized in 2020, which used a scale model of the port to simulate different sea states.
The port of Les Cases d'Alcanar is the only port on the Catalan coast whose entrance is oriented towards the northeast, making it especially vulnerable to easterly storms.
This vulnerability causes internal agitation problems that hinder the normal development of fishing and nautical activities. The port of Les Cases d’Alcanar is the southernmost port in Catalonia with fishing activity, supporting 14 professional vessels, and has capacity for 100 recreational boats.
