The lighting is part of a collective initiative that transforms old surveillance structures into symbols of light and hope. This action is inspired by the visual communication systems that once connected the watchtowers across the Mediterranean, highlighting their historical legacy.
In Amposta, the event on January 31 will begin at 12 noon with a guided visit to the Torre de la Carrova, open to all citizens. This will be followed by the reading of a manifesto, the lighting of smoke signals, and a performance of the song Viatge a Ítaca.
The musical performance will be carried out by the Aquae Choir of the Unió Filharmònica, in an event combining heritage, culture, and social commitment to the humanitarian cause.
This action has a dual purpose: to raise public awareness about the severe humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean Sea, where many people lose their lives fleeing conflicts, and to assert the historical and cultural value of the fortifications found in Catalan-speaking territories as key elements of collective heritage.
