President of Club Natació Amposta dies after critical injuries in AP-7 accident in Vandellòs

The 36-year-old victim, a resident of Amposta, passed away at Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona following the multi-vehicle collision.

A 36-year-old driver and resident of Amposta died this Thursday at the Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona, after being critically injured in a multi-vehicle accident on the AP-7 near Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant on Wednesday evening.

The woman, identified as Roxana Covianici, served as the president of the Club Natació d'Amposta (Amposta Swimming Club). Following her death, the Amposta City Council has declared a day of official mourning, suspending all institutional events organized by the council.

The accident occurred on Wednesday at 8:25 PM (20.25 hores) at kilometer point 279 of the AP-7 motorway heading south. Four cars and one truck were involved in the multi-vehicle crash, the causes of which are still under investigation.
In total, ten people were injured in the collision. Two were classified as critical and transferred to Joan XXIII Hospital by the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), including the deceased victim. There was also one serious injury and seven minor injuries; some of the latter were treated at the CUAP de Cambrils.
With this fatality, 140 people have lost their lives on Catalan roads so far this year, according to provisional data from the Catalan Traffic Service.
