The closures were mainly concentrated in the Terres de l'Ebre, affecting the N-340 near Alcanar, and several county roads. Among the affected routes are the TP-3311 between Santa Bàrbara and La Galera, and the TP-3318, which connects Ulldecona and Alcanar, all within the Montsià region.
The accumulation of water on the roadway forced traffic to be cut off starting at 5 PM, aiming to reorganize circulation and prevent risks. Despite the efforts of the traffic service, the road collapse resulted in more than 14 kilometers of total traffic jams in the area's road network.
The most affected route was the TP-3318 (Ulldecona-Alcanar), where queues reached up to 7 kilometers in both directions. On this road, traffic was allowed with restrictions and great caution in some spots, while other sections were completely closed due to flooding.
According to data from Meteocat, the downpours focused on Montsià and Baix Ebre, being locally strong and leaving very abundant precipitation, with more than 50 mm accumulated and local peaks exceeding 100 mm. Although the forecast indicates that the rains are subsiding, the road closures could remain in place until Thursday, December 18, due to the accumulated water.
