The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has launched the drafting of a construction project to minimize flood risks in Alcanar-Platja, one of the most vulnerable areas on the Catalan coast.

The firm ENGISIC Solucions i Consulting SL will design the protection works with a budget of 125,791 euros. The drafting period is ten months, a mandatory step before executing the infrastructure needed to ensure resident safety.
The technical study focuses on three critical points in the Montsià region: the Llop ravine, the Bandolers ravine, and an unnamed stream. Alcanar's geography, featuring steep slopes from the Montsià mountains to the sea, causes rainwater to flow violently into coastal urban areas.
Between 2018 and 2025, the town suffered over 12 million euros in flood damages. Severe episodes in September 2021 and 2023, as well as October 2025, saw rainfall exceeding 300 liters per square meter.
