The City Council of La Ràpita continues to promote improvements in the municipality with various works and actions initiated or continued during the summer months. These interventions cover areas such as water management, flood prevention, renovation of municipal facilities, schools, playgrounds, and dog hygiene areas, aiming to update spaces, enhance safety, and respond to citizens' needs.
In the Xicago neighborhood, follow-up work continues on actions to improve rainwater management and reduce flood risk. Activities such as dredging the Paca canal, cleaning reeds, sealing the canal's Y-junction, and executing a speed bump on Camp street have been carried out. The completion of works on the Paca canal gate is scheduled for this September. In parallel, meetings are held with the Catalan Water Agency and the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation to coordinate water management projects.
A project is also underway to address the issue of water from the ravine between the bridge on Sant Josep street and the sea, and actions on the Solito ravine and municipal rainwater projects are being coordinated for a comprehensive solution.
The works on the bridge of Sant Josep street are progressing according to schedule, with the installation of supports for the beams. The new infrastructure, which will expand from 12 to 25 meters in width, will improve drainage capacity and reduce critical flood points, especially in the Xicago area.
Asphalting and improvement works have been carried out on the Val de Zafan bridge, which crosses the Solito ravine, widening it to facilitate traffic flow and enhance comfort, given the increased traffic frequency due to the works on the Sant Josep street bridge.
The concrete wall of the Escola Horta Vella has been raised to strengthen the school's protection against potential floods and ensure a safer environment for students, addressing the center's vulnerability to canal overflows.
During August, renovation works began on the field of the Estadi de la Devesa, including the replacement of artificial turf, lighting upgrades, and the installation of new sports equipment, with funding from the Consell Català de l'Esport and the Diputació de Tarragona.
Following the floods of October 12th, improvement works have continued at the Museu de la Mar de l'Ebre, including painting, HVAC installation, and planned parquet floor replacement after Christmas.
Renovation works on the Pavelló Poliesportiu Municipal began in June, involving the refurbishment of the entrance, lobby, and changing rooms, as well as the scoreboard, benches, and curtains. A second phase will address the restrooms, offices, and stands.
Sanitation and adaptation works are underway in the rear part of the Mercat Municipal, including former storage rooms, offices, and restrooms, to improve the spaces used by local entities.
During the summer, improvements were made to the Horta Vella and Carles III schools, including painting, facility upgrades, tree pruning, and various repairs to enhance the educational spaces.
In the Sequesos neighborhood, street asphalting and road marking renewal have been carried out to improve the road surface, signage, and space organization.
Renovation initiatives for the municipality's park playgrounds have begun, many of which showed significant wear, to provide safer and more accessible play areas.
The City Council has renewed the fences of the dog hygiene areas ('pipicans') with more suitable and resistant materials, and the number of available spaces will be increased with the installation of fountains.
Sanitation and renovation works have been carried out on the section of Gorria street before the bridge of the Penjats ravine, where the asphalt had subsided, reinforcing the base and renewing the pavement.
Safety barriers ('quitamiedos') are being replaced at the entrance to La Ràpita from the Salt industrial estate to improve safety and prevent vehicles from falling into the ravine.
These actions are part of an ongoing effort to improve public spaces and enhance municipal services. Projects such as the renovation of the Casal Municipal dels Jubilats and works on the Pepo apartments will advance in the coming months.
