Works on Santa Bàrbara Avenue in Amposta, a key axis connecting the city center with commercial areas and the bus station, are advancing well and are expected to conclude in November.

Renovation works on Santa Bàrbara Avenue in Amposta, which began last March, are in an advanced stage and are expected to conclude next November. This avenue, one of the main access routes to the municipality and an essential axis, connects the city center with a large commercial area and the bus station.
The project covers the stretch between the municipal Market square and the Castellania square, an area also housing facilities such as educational centers, the Montsià Regional Council, and the courts. The renovation will transform the avenue, currently very cemented, by incorporating a bike lane, trees, and green areas to create a more pleasant space and encourage walking. Additionally, architectural barriers will be removed to improve accessibility.
The project also includes the renewal of the rainwater and sewage systems, as well as the undergrounding of power lines. The municipality's cycling network will be extended with this intervention. The total cost of the project, including the renovation of the existing pedestrian bridge with an additional investment, approaches 2 million euros, financed by various sources such as the Fundació Ferrocarril, the PUOSC, the Pla Impuls from the Diputació de Tarragona, and direct contributions from the Amposta City Council, along with a grant from the Generalitat for the bridge.
The mayor of Amposta, Adam Tomàs, highlighted that the avenue's transformation will enable accessible connection to the center and the creation of a tree-lined area with the planting of 95 trees and 6,000 plants. Tomàs confirmed that the works are progressing according to schedule and that the new pedestrian bridge, which will also include a bike lane and side ramps, is currently being tendered.
This renovation adds to other recent projects in the city, such as the recovery of the castle's riverfront and the rehabilitation of the Cases del Castell, part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan promoted with European Next Generation funds. This plan, initiated in October 2022, has included the purchase of the electric boat ‘La Perla’, the transformation of cycle paths, and the installation of more electric chargers.
