Representatives from UGT and Urbaser staff met with the mayor of Amposta to express concerns about the new waste collection contract tender.

The meeting, held yesterday, highlighted the union's concerns regarding the clauses of the new contract. According to UGT, these clauses did not guarantee salary increases throughout the concession period, nor, in some cases, the interprofessional minimum wage. This situation led the union to consider taking the process to the Contracts Tribunal.

"Their presentation was vague, and they provided erroneous data. Our tender already includes a salary increase compared to current levels. We are talking about an average of 350 net euros more per month. It is precisely because we incorporate the possibility of this increase, taking the state collective agreement for street cleaning as a reference, that we almost double the cost of the contract, going from 700,000 euros to over a million."

The City Council expressed surprise at the union's stance, as they believe the new tender represents a substantial improvement in working conditions. The mayor emphasized that an appeal to the Contracts Tribunal, without a solid legal basis, would only serve to delay the implementation of the planned improvements.
Ultimately, UGT decided to submit a preliminary consultation to the council to gather more information. The mayor warned that if the tender were challenged without legal grounds, he would be forced to denounce potential political interests behind the action.
