The Mossos d'Esquadra and Amposta Local Police completed the eviction of an occupied building on Sant Pere Street this Thursday, citing severe health and safety concerns.

This operation marks the first time a municipality in the Terres de l'Ebre region has led such an eviction. Mayor Adam Tomàs emphasized the importance of the move, which followed a complex legal process initiated in 2024 when the property returned to private ownership.

"We are not talking about squatters in need who do not cause trouble. In this case, they were criminals and caused coexistence problems."

Technical reports confirmed the apartments were uninhabitable due to unsanitary conditions and illegal electricity connections. Following a ruling by the Tarragona administrative court on February 2nd, occupants were given until February 26th to vacate the premises.
The local administration is now targeting two additional buildings on Joan d'Àustria and Estel streets. The individuals evicted from the Sant Pere property reportedly held over 100 criminal records, causing significant distress to neighbors for over five years.
