The Department of Territory has launched a major environmental restoration project on Gaita Island, Amposta, to remove concrete structures from an abandoned fish farm and restore the original marshland ecosystem.

Funded with 843,721 euros from Next Generation EU funds, the works cover 15 hectares within the Ebro Delta Natural Park. The site was heavily modified in the early 1990s for a project involving former FC Barcelona players, but it has remained derelict for over twenty years.
The restoration includes creating freshwater ponds to support endangered species like the fartet fish. While the area will focus on biodiversity, Amposta City Council has ensured continued access for local recreational fishers from the Imposita Fishing Club to the Alfacs bay.
