The council has warned that depositing waste in nature is an uncivil practice that has serious consequences for both the environment and public health. In this regard, it is reminded that abandoning rubbish outside authorized areas constitutes an administrative infraction that can lead to significant economic sanctions.
Current legislation, especially Law 7/2022 on waste and contaminated soils for a circular economy, strictly regulates this type of conduct. According to this regulation, the abandonment of bulky waste or any other type in the natural environment is considered a serious infraction, with fines in Catalonia that can exceed 3,000 euros.
“"This neglect and lack of civic responsibility are not normal. These behaviors are polluting and harm our environment. We must be aware that Freginals belongs to everyone, and only together can we keep it clean and vibrant."
The City Council insists that all citizens have the duty to keep public and natural spaces clean, as well as to make correct use of authorized collection points. Household waste includes a wide variety of materials, such as appliances, furniture, cooking oils, textiles, batteries, or rubble from small construction works, among others.
With this campaign, the council will reinforce both surveillance actions and citizen awareness initiatives, with the aim of eradicating these practices and preserving the natural environment of the municipality. The City Council calls for citizen collaboration to report any illegal dumping and thus contribute to keeping Freginals clean and sustainable.
