The Mayor of Freginals, Neus Franch, led a memorial service this Friday to honor the thirteen Erasmus students who died ten years ago in a bus crash on the AP-7 highway.

The ceremony took place at the site of the accident, where a memorial stone stands. On March 20, 2016, a bus carrying students back from the Fallas festival in Valencia to Barcelona overturned, resulting in 13 deaths and 26 injuries. Most victims were international students at the University of Barcelona (UB).

"After ten years, the people of Freginals still remember them. They are not alone; we share their grief."

While the legal case was closed by a Tortosa court three years ago following the driver's death, local authorities continue to demand a safety review of this specific stretch of the AP-7. The Freginals council describes the long straight road as a 'black spot' where driver fatigue often leads to serious accidents.
