The Consell Comarcal del Montsià has gathered over sixty business owners to discuss the rise in labor absenteeism and the findings of a study on temporary disability in Catalonia.

The meeting served to present the report prepared by the Observatori de la Pimec, which analyzes the evolution of temporary disability leave between 2013 and 2025. The event was attended by institutional representatives and the business sector of the Terres de l'Ebre region.

"Creating spaces like today's is especially relevant, as they allow for contrasting points of view, generating debate, and enriching the understanding of labor absenteeism from different perspectives."

According to the data presented, labor leave hours have doubled over the last decade, currently accounting for more than 75% of non-worked hours. Experts noted that this issue carries a cost exceeding 10% of the Catalan GDP, a burden that small and medium-sized enterprises struggle to bear alone.
During the session, the focus was placed on the need to improve coordination with the healthcare system and strengthen the role of mutual insurance companies to streamline processes. Furthermore, it was warned that public health investment in Catalonia, at 5.7% of GDP, remains below the national and European average.
