The Mossos d'Esquadra and Amposta Local Police carried out the eviction of an illegally occupied apartment block on Sant Pere street this Thursday morning.

The operation, which lasted about an hour, was triggered by a mayoral decree supported by the Tarragona courts. Technical reports had previously identified illegal electricity connections and severe unsanitary conditions that made the ten apartments uninhabitable.

"We looked for a loophole from the City Council to end a situation that should have been resolved through criminal courts, but we did it through health and safety regulations."

While up to twenty people had been living in the building, only four were present during the eviction. Municipal sources stated that those involved accumulated a total of 85 police records. The owner now plans to renovate the property to address the local housing demand.
