Ulldecona's Popular Consultation on Major Festivals Sees 9.6% Participation

Only 623 of the 6,456 registered residents voted in the citizen initiative to decide the dates of the local celebration.

The popular consultation held in Ulldecona to decide the dates of its Major Festivals registered a 9.6% participation rate, with 623 votes cast out of 6,456 registered residents aged 16 and over.

This initiative is part of a citizen participation process promoted by the Ulldecona city council. The vote, which took place on Monday, offered three main options for the celebration of the local festivities.
The alternatives proposed were: celebrating the festivals during the week of the patron saint, the Mare de Déu de la Pietat, on September 12; scheduling them for the second half of August, with the exception of Quinquennial Festivals years; or maintaining the current model, between the last weekend of August and the first of September, also excluding Quinquennial Festivals.
The electoral roll consisted of 6,456 residents of the municipality aged 16 and over. The 9.6% participation (623 votes) was well below the 55% threshold established for the result to be considered binding.
Regarding the results, the most voted option was the second half of August, which received 303 votes. In second place, the proposal for the week of the patron saint received 172 votes. Finally, the current model, between the last weekend of August and the first of September, garnered 146 votes. 2 null votes were counted during the day.
