Officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested a 35-year-old woman last Tuesday in Santa Bàrbara, accused of public health offenses and electricity fraud, following the discovery of a large marijuana plantation.

The arrest is the result of an investigation that began on April 14, after the Santa Bàrbara Municipal Watch Corps reported a possible incident at a residence. Initially, a water leak was detected, but the lack of response from the residents raised suspicions.
Officers who went to the scene observed several signs of illicit activity, such as completely boarded-up windows, operational ventilation systems, and a strong smell of marijuana. These observations led the Amposta Investigation Unit to take over the case.
Subsequent checks confirmed a very high and irregular electricity consumption at the property, in addition to the absence of registered residents. With this evidence, investigators obtained a judicial warrant to enter the home.
The day after the authorization, officers accessed the property and discovered a marijuana plantation perfectly equipped for intensive cultivation. During the search, 1,132 plants in an advanced state of growth and 1,085 grams of dried buds ready for distribution were seized.
The property was equipped with ventilation, cooling, and lighting systems, and the electrical installations had been tampered with to ensure the continuous operation of the plantation. It was determined that the electricity fraud amounted to nearly 40,000 euros.
The owner of the property was arrested on April 21. The investigation remains open, and further arrests related to the case are not ruled out.
