Following the severe downpours that affected La Ràpita on October 12, 2025, causing floods and significant damage to infrastructure such as the bridge on Sant Josep street, the City Council has intensified efforts to recover spaces and enhance the municipality's drainage capacity. Actions have focused on protecting vulnerable areas, like the Xicago and Sequesos neighborhoods, and implementing solutions to better cope with future intense rainfall events.
The initial emergency response allowed for the rapid recovery of normal activity thanks to the mobilization of emergency services, municipal teams, volunteers, and businesses. Since then, the priority has been not only to repair the damage but also to advance preventive measures.
Improvements have been made to water circulation, including the cleaning of the Paca and Carles III canals, the construction of a protective wall at the Escola Horta Vella, and the installation of protections on the street facing the Solito ravine. Maintenance work has also been carried out on roads affected by the floods.
To improve coordination for new risk episodes, an Emergency Table has been established with involved agents. This table facilitates information sharing, risk situation monitoring, and action coordination. Additionally, the preventive closure of municipal facilities and educational centers has been implemented when weather forecasts require it, with specific monitoring of the Xicago neighborhood.
La Ràpita, along with Deltebre and l’Aldea, has launched the Argos tool, an alert and emergency management platform that integrates meteorological data and information on vulnerable points to improve anticipation and decision-making.
One of the most significant actions is the reconstruction of the bridge on Sant Josep street, which is being widened from 12 to 25 meters to improve drainage capacity. The new bridge is expected to be inaugurated in December. The bridge at Val de Zafán has also been rebuilt, and improvements have been made at the Escola Horta Vella and the Museu de la Mar de l’Ebre.
The City Council is also working on new projects to address water flow more comprehensively. These include the lamination basin and stabilization of the Solito ravine, improvements to the stormwater network in Aiguassera, and collector projects in the Penjats ravine and on Gorria street. Plans are underway to improve the stormwater network on Sant Josep street and Sagrat Cor avenue to reduce flood risk in the Xicago neighborhood.
La Ràpita continues its commitment to improving stormwater management, recognizing that there is still work to be done. Continuity, planning, and coordination among administrations are key to reducing flood risk and enhancing the municipality's preparedness for future intense rainfall events.
