This unanimous approval allows the initiation of the bidding and awarding procedures for the construction works. Mayor Lorena González detailed that the works, with an estimated execution period of eight to nine months, could begin during 2026.
The project aims to complete the second phase of the building, which started more than fifteen years ago, and eliminate the prefabricated modules still in use by some students. New areas will include classrooms with mobile walls, a dining hall, gymnasium, changing rooms, a sports court, and green spaces, alongside reforms to improve ventilation and energy efficiency.
The final budget for the Escola Mont-roig expansion project is 3.6 million euros, an increase of 1.3 million euros compared to the initial forecast.
During the same session, the Paeria also approved the cession of a plot of land for the future headquarters of the Agents Rurals (Rural Agents). This new location, which anticipates an investment of 3.1 million euros, will be situated in the Miranda area, opposite the Comarcal Council, ceded for 40 years.
Finally, a joint motion presented by Junts, ERC, and Treballem per Balaguer was approved, rejecting the EU agreement with Mercosur and supporting Catalan farmers. The PSC abstained from this vote.
