Vallfogona de Balaguer will once again become the center of snail cuisine on the first weekend of May, with the second edition of the Lo Caragol Food Fair combining gastronomy, local products, and entertainment.

The Escoles passage and the esplanade behind the Meritxell Serret Sports Center will be the nerve centers of this event, which for the second consecutive year highlights one of the most emblematic dishes of the Lleida region. The initiative, organized by the Vallfogona de Balaguer City Council, aims to promote local gastronomic richness.
After reviewing previous editions, the organization has adjusted the schedules. The fair will open its doors on Saturday, May 2, from one in the afternoon until midnight, and on Sunday, May 5, from twelve in the morning until approximately four in the afternoon. These changes aim to make it easier for visitors to enjoy a wide variety of snail dishes and purchase related products throughout the weekend.
The pillars of the fair include the Lo Caragol Food Tasting Market, where various local restaurants and those from Noguera will offer their snail specialties. There will also be the Lo Caragol Market, for the acquisition of specific products, and the La Terra Slow Food Market, featuring zero-kilometer products. Both markets will be held on Sunday starting at ten in the morning. Attendees can pair the dishes with artisan wines and beers from local producers.
The program of complementary activities, which will begin on Saturday, May 2, at one in the afternoon, includes musical performances, a snail cooking contest for amateurs with a distinguished jury, and a contest to guess the weight of snails in a net. In addition, various children's activities, such as bag decorating workshops and inflatables, are planned to ensure entertainment for the little ones throughout the weekend.
The Lo Caragol Food Fair has the support of the Diputació de Lleida and the collaboration of the Federació de Colles de l'Aplec (Fecoll) and the Federació d'Hosteleria de Lleida, entities linked to the Aplec del Caragol de Lleida. In its first edition, the event was a great success, with the sale of over 1,800 snail tapas and more than 1,700 servings of local wine and beer.
