The Pla Ovi livestock farm in Algerri (Noguera) has consolidated itself as a benchmark in rural innovation, combining extensive sheep farming with the direct sale of local meat for eleven years.

The company, managed by the couple Jordi Terés and Gemma Arnillas, raises and sells lamb meat exclusively from its own flock of 400 sheep. This extensive system, where the animals graze year-round on municipal land, combines respect for the environment, animal welfare, and a proximity economy. Pla Ovi was selected by the Ministry of Agriculture for the Cultiva Program, which promotes practical training for young farmers in model operations.
Recently, Francisco José Sánchez Campanario, a 38-year-old farmer from Cuevas del Becerro (Málaga), completed a training stay at Pla Ovi to learn direct marketing strategies. This knowledge exchange was considered enriching for both parties, allowing Terés and Arnillas to share their methodology and gain new perspectives on flock management.

"Coming to Algerri allows me to learn another way to close the cycle and add value to the local product."

The company's philosophy focuses on “closing the natural cycle,” utilizing pastures and crop surpluses to return fertile manure to the soil. This vision drove the direct sales project, which distributes orders to individuals and restaurants across Spain and Andorra through its store in Algerri and its website. The store, opened seven years ago, is the only establishment in the village and also offers other basic local products, such as bread, pork, and beef.

"Our goal has always been to close the natural cycle: utilizing pastures and crop surpluses, and offering a proximity product that connects field and consumer."

Gemma Arnillas · Co-manager of Pla Ovi
Pla Ovi's commitment extends beyond the market. The farm is part of the Ramats de Foc (Flocks of Fire) program, contributing to fire prevention through grazing in natural areas, including the Serra Llarga. This work in maintaining the undergrowth, combined with animal welfare, ensures the quality of the meat. The company recently received the PIMEC Autónomos 2025 Award, which recognizes its territorial roots and commitment to sustainability.
