The secondary water supply source for the municipality of Aiguafreda is the Osona Sud water distribution network. This connection, operational since its launch in 1998, has been crucial for guaranteeing supply, especially during periods of drought or when local water resources are scarce.
The water supplied through this network is drawn from the Ter river, near Malars, between Manlleu and Roda de Ter. The network serves 18 municipalities in the central and southern part of the Osona region, with Aiguafreda and Sant Martí de Centelles marking its southern end.
The infrastructure includes several reservoirs and pumping stations along its route, and undergoes continuous investment and maintenance to ensure its proper functioning, adequate water treatment, and optimal service pressures. The amount of water Aiguafreda purchases from Aigües d’Osona is adjusted according to municipal needs, aiming to balance supply with other available sources.
The intake pipe entering the municipality is located in the northern part of Aiguafreda. From this point, the water is distributed to the municipal reservoirs. Areas such as the Font dels Enamorats neighborhood and part of the industrial zone are supplied directly from this network, as the distance and elevation difference make supply from the local Avencó intake impossible.
