The selected projects address global challenges from a local perspective. The first, titled 'Artificial intelligence and community action to reduce the diagnostic delay of infectious diseases in Ethiopia,' promoted by Caldes Solidària, uses technology to improve the detection of diseases such as malaria or tuberculosis. This project involves collaboration with Vall d’Hebron, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), and Ethiopian hospitals, and is based on a robotic microscope controlled by Arduino and artificial intelligence.
The second project, 'Smiles for the Future: Child protection and gender equality in schools in the Luuka and Iganga districts' in Uganda, presented by Rotary Club Caldes de Montbui Cingles de Bertí with the participation of Petits Detalls and PECA Women & Children’s Foundation, aims to prevent violence against children and strengthen local protection systems. Activities include the distribution of reusable sanitary pads, workshops on sexual and reproductive rights, and community campaigns.
Finally, 'Renovation of outdoor spaces and improvement of training at the Palmier center' in Morocco, by Amics dels Infants del Marroc (IMA), aims to empower single mothers through training and job placement. The project includes the renovation and equipping of training and restaurant spaces at the Palmier center, as well as dissemination campaigns to increase income and improve the association's self-financing.
The meeting, chaired by the Councilor for Development Cooperation, Núria Carné i Navarro, also reviewed the awareness-raising and political advocacy activities carried out during the year, such as those related to 'Mayors for Peace' or support for Sahrawi refugees.
