Five minors die in storage room fire in Manlleu

A devastating fire in an apartment block in Manlleu, Osona, has resulted in the deaths of five minors and left five other people injured on Tuesday night.

The emergency services were alerted at 9:10 PM regarding smoke in a five-story building on Montseny Street. The Bombers de la Generalitat identified the source as a storage room located on the rooftop. While initial reports suggested the space was being used as a home, the Mossos d'Esquadra later clarified it was being used as a local premises.
Thirteen fire crews and eleven SEM ambulances attended the scene. Despite their efforts, medical teams were unable to save the five young victims found inside. Five other residents suffered minor injuries. Catalan President Salvador Illa expressed his shock and offered condolences to the families and the town of Manlleu.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire. Forensic teams completed the removal of the bodies early Wednesday morning, and residents were allowed to return to their homes after the building was declared structurally sound.
