Five young individuals died and four others were slightly injured during a fire that broke out late Monday night in a residential building in Manlleu, Barcelona province.

The Catalan Fire Brigade responded to the emergency at 9:10 PM on February 16. The fire originated in a storage room located on the rooftop of a five-story building on Montseny Street. Although firefighters extinguished the flames by 9:41 PM, five victims were found deceased inside the affected area.
The Mossos d'Esquadra police force has launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the deaths and whether the storage unit was being used as a makeshift home. Civil Protection reported that three families were relocated to the Hotel Torres after the incident, while other residents were allowed to return to their homes.

"The City Council will decree three days of mourning, and flags will fly at half-mast as a sign of respect and memory for the victims."
