Five youths die in tragic rooftop fire in Manlleu

Police are investigating the cause of the blaze in a storage room used as a social gathering spot.

Five teenagers have died and five others were injured in a fire that broke out on Monday night in a rooftop storage room in Manlleu, Osona.

The incident occurred around 9:00 PM in a residential building on Montseny Street. The Bombers de la Generalitat were alerted at 9:10 PM regarding smoke coming from the top floor of the five-story block.
The Mossos d'Esquadra police force is currently investigating the origin of the flames. The room where the fire started was a regular meeting point for the victims, although official sources have not yet confirmed if the space was being used as a permanent residence.
Identification of the deceased is ongoing, as some bodies were severely burnt. Most of the victims are believed to be minors. Five other individuals were treated for injuries at the scene, with most being discharged shortly after by emergency services.
