The Consell del Jussà implements door-to-door waste collection starting February 19 in four towns, aiming to exceed 60% recycling, despite strong local opposition in La Pobla de Segur.

This new waste management system, replacing containers removed after 30 years, is launched as a pilot plan with aid from the European Union in the municipalities of La Pobla de Segur, Salàs, Talarn, and Pont de Claverol (in Conca de Dalt). The main goal is to increase the current 42% selective collection rate to 60% by 2030, thus avoiding increasing penalties for landfill disposal.

"It is a system that implies major changes but, in the long run, it is the most effective."

Marc Baró · Mayor of La Pobla de Segur (ERC)
However, the change has generated significant mobilization in La Pobla de Segur, where a thousand residents, organized in a group, have collected signatures and called a 'cacerolada' (pot-banging protest) against the ordinance approved by the Consell del Jussà. Opponents believe the implementation was carried out without consensus or considering alternatives.

"They have given no option; it will be applied regardless, without considering the elderly, those who live alone, or those with mobility difficulties. Furthermore, it is a mountain town with slopes and narrow streets."

The rejection has been lower in Talarn and Salàs de Pallars, where mayors, such as Toni Millet and Àlex Garcia, point out that the type of housing (single-family homes) facilitates management. Meanwhile, council president Ramon Jordana assures that the deployment across the rest of Pallars Jussà will be progressive. The mayor of Isona, Jeannine Abella (Junts), has expressed doubts about the plan's coherence, as some towns in her municipality are excluded from the route planned for 2027.
