Pallars Jussà has achieved a remarkable 80% recycling rate in less than two months since the implementation of its door-to-door waste collection system, which began on February 19 in several towns across the region.

This new waste management model, which started operating in la Pobla de Segur, el Pont de Claverol, Talarn, and Salàs de Pallars, has shown rapid adaptation by residents. The president of the Comarcal Council, Ramon Jordana, highlighted the "good disposition" of the citizens, while acknowledging that some reluctance still exists.

"There are still people who are reluctant, but we must value the good disposition of the residents towards the change in model."

The launch of the system was not without controversy, with a demonstration of approximately 450 people just days after its implementation. Additionally, a citizen platform collected over a thousand signatures and submitted allegations. However, the Comarcal Council definitively approved the regulatory ordinance on April 1, dismissing most of the allegations and incorporating only two technical modifications related to commercial waste management and responsibility within homeowner communities.
Jordana regretted the "politicization" of the debate surrounding waste management, insisting that the goal is to look towards the future and the well-being of future generations. The mayor of la Pobla de Segur, Marc Baró, also emphasized the generally positive response, despite the inherent difficulties of any model change.

"I regret that a political message has been made out of this when it was not intended. We can agree or disagree, but we must consider what kind of world we want for our children and grandchildren."

The president of the Comarcal Council also highlighted the "very high quality" of the organic matter collected and assured that the daily operation of the new system proceeds with a minimal volume of incidents, limited to one or two calls per day to the dedicated helpline.
