Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has introduced the Turistren passport, a new digital pass that combines six of its tourist transports to promote the discovery of Catalonia's natural and railway heritage.

This digital passport allows users to receive discounts of up to 20% from their first journey on services such as the Montserrat Rack Railway and Funiculars, the Núria Rack Railway, and the Cement Train. Its launch coincides with the start of the Tren dels Llacs (Lakes Train) season, which has 29 scheduled trips until October, including 23 with the Historic Train and 6 with the Panoramic Train.

"We want those who use our services the most to receive benefits for doing so. The idea is to promote all our services."

Carles Ruiz · President of FGC
FGC President, Carles Ruiz, emphasized that the passport's main goal is to provide economic advantages to users enjoying railway tourist experiences. Meanwhile, David Ros, Deputy Director of Railway Tourist Services, noted that the Tren dels Llacs attracts around 6,000 users annually, the Cement Train between 20,000 and 30,000, and Montserrat's attractions draw over a million tourists.
To obtain the passport, users purchasing a ticket for one of the six tourist transports will receive an email link to register and access the digital document. Journeys will be stamped on this passport to apply discounts. Furthermore, those who complete the route on all six tourist trains before December 31, 2027, will receive a commemorative gift and be entered into a prize draw.
The Tren dels Llacs, which began its season this Saturday, covers 89 kilometers from Lleida, passing through the regions of Segrià, Noguera, and the mountainous area of Montsec to La Pobla de Segur, in Pallars Jussà. During the two-hour journey, passengers enjoy landscapes featuring 4 lakes, 40 tunnels, and 75 bridges, with views of the Segre River and the Noguera Pallaresa.
For 2026, the Tren dels Llacs has 29 scheduled trips. The Historic Train will operate 23 journeys every Saturday from this Saturday until June 27, and then again from August 22 to October 31. The Panoramic Train will make 6 trips between July 4 and August 8. An onboard tourist guide provides information about the route, landscape, and history of the train.
Once in Pallars Jussà, visitors can explore the town with options such as the Pyrenees Fauna and Nature Interpretation Center, the Espai Raier, the Molí de l'Oli, Casa Mauri, or the Portet Liqueur Factory. A recommended stop is also Salàs, known for its museum shops, which recreate historical spaces. Other points of interest include the Epicentre and the Orígens Geopark Visitor Center in Tremp, the Hydroelectric Museum and the Capdella power station, or the Salt Museum in Gerri de la Sal.
Ruiz expressed optimism for the tourist season, anticipating a "large influx" of visitors, especially in domestic tourism. According to FGC data, during Holy Week, attendance at the Montserrat Rack Railway and Funiculars increased by 9%, at the Núria Rack Railway by 17%, and at the Cement Train by 58% compared to the previous year.
