The Alt Àneu City Council has completed the restoration of the Sant Martí de Borén carving, protecting the original inside the church and installing a 3D printed copy outside.

The Romanesque church of Borén, in the municipality of Alt Àneu, features this novelty combining historical fidelity with cutting-edge technology. The carving, part of the village's old Baroque altarpiece, depicts the scene of Saint Martin giving his cloak to a beggar.
The original figure, of great heritage value, was until recently above the church entrance door, inevitably exposed to the elements. To ensure its long-term preservation, the piece has been meticulously restored and moved inside the temple.
To prevent this action from leaving a void on the exterior of the building, altering its traditional appearance, the municipal council opted to create an exact replica using 3D printing technology. This copy of Saint Martin was installed in the original location a few days ago.
Municipal sources explained that, to integrate it perfectly into the surroundings, an imitation patina with a neutral color was applied to the replica, giving it an appearance that respects the building's stone without pretending to be the original.
The project was carried out thanks to institutional collaboration. The restoration of the original and the creation of the replica were handled by the Centre de Restauració de Béns Mobles de Catalunya (CRBMC), with aid from the Department of Culture and financial contribution from the Alt Àneu City Council.
