The Baqueira Beret ski resort has launched a legal challenge in Lleida courts against the Generalitat de Catalunya following the rejection of a major residential project in Sorpe, located in the Pallars Sobirà region.

The dispute centers on a proposal to build 154 homes in the small village of Sorpe. In October 2024, the Alt Pirineu Urban Planning Commission returned the file, citing a failure to complete mandatory legal consultations required to evaluate the territorial impact of such a large-scale transformation.
Josep Miquel Rosell, the mayor of Alt Àneu, stated that the local government will not participate in the court proceedings. The project has sparked significant local debate, as Sorpe currently has fewer than 30 permanent residents, making the proposed development one of the largest in the Pyrenees in recent years.

"The City Council has decided not to appear in the proceedings being settled in the administrative court."

While Baqueira Beret argues that expanding facilities in Pallars Sobirà would reduce traffic congestion in the Val d'Aran, critics worry the scale of the project is disproportionate for such a small mountain community.
