The Government has confirmed the creation of a new dedicated Emergency Region for the Pyrenees, which will be headquartered in Sort, thereby improving incident response in the mountainous region.

The delegate for Alt Pirineu i Aran, Sílvia Romero, announced that the location for the new operational unit was determined based on "technical and operational criteria." This infrastructure, long advocated for by the region, is expected to optimize the management and coordination of firefighters in the Pyrenean area.
The choice of Sort as the headquarters stems from the need for a strategic location to cover the entire Pyrenees. While the infrastructure is being built and personnel are deployed, services remain guaranteed through an operational sub-station in the Pyrenees, dependent on the Lleida Emergency Region.

"The purpose of this new Emergency Region is not just to have physical facilities, but to provide the territory with a closer, more agile, and efficient service."

This decentralization aims to improve the coordination of firefighting teams and expedite responses to any incidents in the mountains.
Romero also noted that numerous municipalities in Alt Pirineu offered land for the headquarters, but Sort was ultimately chosen for technical reasons.
