The inauguration of the new cutting room in Sort, which will be managed by the Cooperativa del Pallars, represents a significant advancement for the primary sector in Pallars Sobirà. This infrastructure will allow local farmers to close the production cycle, from livestock breeding to the direct sale of meat.
The Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig, announced new lines of aid for the financing of cutting rooms, aiming to increase their number throughout the region. Ordeig advocated for the creation of a network of low-capacity slaughterhouses and processing facilities.
“"It marks a 'before and after' by allowing meat to be processed and 'a high-quality local product' to be brought directly to restaurants and consumers' homes."
Farmers like Edgar Espada highlight that the facility will enable meat processing and the offering of a high-quality local product. Lázaro Moreno, from Tornafort, emphasized that the infrastructure highlights the quality of extensive farming meat from Pallars and aims for distribution throughout Catalonia.
Eloi Isús, a farmer from Llessui, called on meat shops to prioritize local produce. The mayor of Sort, Baldo Farré, noted that the agri-food sector should be strategic and advocated for a development model based on supporting the primary sector and the circular economy.
In other news, Minister Ordeig met with owners of farms affected by tuberculosis outbreaks. He reiterated the Administration's support for resuming activity and announced a shock plan to reduce game fauna.
