An intense windstorm has hit Catalonia since early Sunday morning, with gusts exceeding 170 km/h in Alt Empordà and 120 km/h in Alt Pirineu, causing widespread disruption and over 500 calls to the 112 emergency line.

The wind, described as "violent," has created significant problems on the Catalan road network. Among the most notable incidents, a tree fell on the C-14, near Coll de Nargó, and an accident occurred at the exit of Oliana towards Andorra. These issues have been compounded by intense snowfall.
Concurrently, the westernmost Alt Pirineu has experienced considerable snowfall, with the snowline dropping to 600 meters. This situation has forced the closure of a dozen roads, particularly in Vall d'Aran, Pallars Sobirà, and Alta Ribagorça. Affected routes include the C-28 at the Bonaigua pass and the BV-4024 at the Pal pass. Additionally, snow chains are mandatory on sections such as the N-260 at the Cantó pass and the C-28 between Vielha and Naut Aran, among others.
The Bombers de la Generalitat (Catalan Firefighters) have handled over 500 calls related to the windstorm between Saturday night and Sunday noon. The majority of these interventions, 80%, were concentrated in the Girona Emergency Region, with 381 services. The call-outs were primarily for removing fallen trees, roof elements, and electrical grid components. In towns like Vall-llobrega, Palamós, and Calonge, in Baix Empordà, falling solar panels and other elements caused damage to parked vehicles. In Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a large tree fell in the Jardins Juli Garreta area.

Forecasts indicate that the strong winds will continue until Tuesday morning.

Protecció Civil de la Generalitat (Catalan Civil Protection) maintains the special alert plan for windstorms, VENTCAT, as Sunday is expected to be the day with the most intense gusts. Authorities anticipate that the strong wind episode will last until Tuesday morning, urging extreme caution.
