Golmés has celebrated its Sant Salvador Votat festival with an opening speech by humorist Ferran Aixalà, who championed local traditions and town pride.

The municipality of Golmés has kicked off its Sant Salvador Votat festival with an opening speech that blended humor, a defense of traditions, and a deep sense of local pride. The honor of delivering the inaugural address fell to Lleida-based humorist and screenwriter Ferran Aixalà.
Aixalà, who expressed his honor and responsibility as the opening speaker, stated he feels a connection to the town despite knowing it "rather little," emphasizing that it is part of his region.

"Giving the opening speech is an honor and a responsibility, especially in a town I feel close to."

The speech was filled with humorous remarks referencing Golmés' identity. The humorist ironically championed the nightclub Big Ben, asserting it belongs to Golmés and not Mollerussa, a comment that resonated with the collective memory of the area. He also joked about the town hall's construction work, jokingly attributing it to "Blessed Saint Concrete" rather than Sant Salvador Votat.
During his address, Aixalà highlighted the importance of keeping traditions alive, expressing satisfaction in seeing these customs endure and be proudly upheld across generations.
The mayor of Golmés, Jordi Calvís, spoke to emphasize the significance of this celebration within the municipality's festive calendar, calling it "the festival of festivals."
The event also served as the official presentation of Golmés' new heirs and 'pubilles' (traditional festival queens) for 2026.
