A pioneering pilot program in Mollerussa will host fifteen young people from Senegal to work and train for three years in agricultural companies in Ponent, aiming to strengthen the sector and facilitate their development in their country of origin.

The plan, presented yesterday at the Institut Mollerussa, emerges as a response to the growing demand for labor in the Catalan countryside. In addition to job placement, the initiative offers participants comprehensive technical and business training, designed to equip them with the necessary tools to launch their own projects upon returning to their country.
This first phase of the program will feature the active collaboration of the Mollerussa-based firm Nufri, the Miralcamp Cooperative, and the Asaja union. The fifteen young people, hailing from the Dagana department, will combine periods of work in the agricultural sector with specific training provided at the Institut Mollerussa.

"Those who must develop these countries are their people, and what we must do is train them and give them opportunities."

Antoni Reig · Director of Institut Mollerussa
Antoni Reig, director of the Institut Mollerussa, underscored the long-term vision of the project, emphasizing the importance of empowering young people to contribute to the development of their home countries. This experience seeks to provide them with knowledge and skills to create micro-enterprises or initiatives linked to agricultural development.
The secretary general of ORU Fogar, Carles Llorens, highlighted the replicability potential of this model in other African and European regions, provided initial results are positive. Also attending the meeting was the president of the Dagana Departmental Council, Ababacar Ndao, who stressed the relevance of agricultural activity in his demarcation, located in northern Senegal, and the capacity of young people to leverage this experience.
The PSC senator for Lleida, Pasión Gador Romero García, expressed institutional support for the initiative and offered collaboration in state-level documentary processing. She also emphasized the importance of including women in these projects, as their participation can multiply the social and economic impact.
The educational program, presented by professor Ferran Blasco, will include modules on social integration (language, environmental adaptation), occupational risk prevention, food handling, and safe machinery use. The itinerary also foresees personalized support for each participant to develop a project tailored to the needs of their territory.
