The Consorci de l’Estany has finalized the purchase of 55.6 hectares of forest land from the Mas Torrent Mal estate in the municipality of Porqueres, to ensure the conservation of Puig Clarà and Puig Rodó.

The estate, fully included within the Protected Natural Area of Estany de Banyoles, was acquired for a total cost of 205,503.64 euros. The operation was made possible by contributions of 100,000 euros from the Department of Territory and Ecological Transition of the Generalitat de Catalunya and 100,000 euros from the Diputació de Girona, with the Consorci providing the remaining 5,503.64 euros.
The Generalitat's aid is part of a call for applications for the acquisition of properties with community interest habitats and includes a commitment to protect and restore the finca's biodiversity over the next 30 years. This acquisition culminates years of collaboration with the property owner, with whom the Consorci already had a usage agreement.
The estate, primarily covered by Mediterranean white pine forests, represents 5.23% of the protected natural area's surface and 15.07% of its pine forests. Within the property are Puig Rodó (267 m) and Puig Clarà (314 m), where the Consorci installed viewpoints in 2017.
The Consorci plans a conservation and restoration program to improve natural habitats, promote biodiversity, prevent fires, and manage public use. Actions will include forest management to foster more mature and resilient forests, fire prevention, and improvements to public access, such as regulating entry and maintaining viewpoints.
