Banyoles Local Police sanctions 17 drivers for excessive motorcycle noise

The police force is intensifying checks on mopeds and motorcycles to ensure neighborhood rest and road safety.

The Banyoles Local Police has issued 17 reports to moped and motorcycle drivers since May 7 in a specific campaign to reduce noise pollution.

The operation, which has focused especially on areas near secondary schools in Banyoles, has allowed for the inspection of more than thirty vehicles in its first week of activity. According to official data, the sanctions were distributed among 10 mopeds and 7 motorcycles, resulting in twenty reports for technical irregularities.

"We have checked more than 30 vehicles and have issued twenty reports for non-compliance with regulations due to anomalies related to exhaust pipes, carburetors, or cylinders."

The modifications detected in the vehicles not only generate excessive noise but also compromise driver safety. The campaign, which began on May 7 and ends on May 15, will continue in the coming months with periodic five-day checks to ensure compliance with municipal ordinances.
In addition to this initiative, the police force maintains surveillance on personal mobility vehicles. The city council reminds that electric scooters must be registered and have mandatory civil liability insurance to circulate in the municipality.
