The town of Cornellà del Terri will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the May Tree planting during its main festival from April 3 to 6.

This year's celebration, declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest, is particularly significant as it marks half a century since the tradition was brought back following the end of the Franco dictatorship. Mayor Salvador Coll emphasized that the tree represents freedom and democratic values.

"The May Tree symbolizes the tree of liberty and reminds us of the value of defending rights such as voting, expressing opinions, or showing dissent."

The festival's opening speech will be a moving tribute to Andreu Comas, a prominent local figure who passed away last August. His family will read the speech he had prepared to honor his lifelong commitment to the community.
