The consumer association Facua reported an average price increase of 6.8% for Roscón de Reyes (King Cakes) across major Spanish supermarkets during December 2025, compared to the previous year.

The Facua study analyzed forty-one varieties of the traditional holiday cake across chains like Mercadona, Hipercor, Alcampo, Eroski, and Carrefour, noting that price hikes reached peaks of 34% in some specific products.
By chain, Alcampo leads the price increases with an average rise of 13.5%, followed by Mercadona (9.7%) and Hipercor (6.2%). Eroski (4.5%) and Carrefour (3.4%) registered more moderate increases.
Beyond cost fluctuations, the organization warns about the composition of the fillings, urging consumers to check ingredients to avoid confusing pure cream with preparations containing vegetable fats.
Facua also identified changes in product format. For instance, the unfilled Roscón from the Hacendado brand at Mercadona reduced its weight from 370 grams to 360 grams, while its price increased by 5.6% between 2024 and 2025.
