To carry out this scheduled outage, the entity temporarily incorporated a thousand workers from various professional profiles, more than half of whom are residents of the towns near the plant. The plant was synchronized with the electrical grid last Wednesday at 10:20 PM.
During the refueling, ANAV renewed 60 of the 157 elements that make up the reactor core. Furthermore, numerous preparatory activities were carried out for the plant's entry into long-term operation (LTO), scheduled for December 2027, when the plant completes 40 years of operation.
In total, the outage involved nearly 9,000 work orders and the incorporation of 25 design modifications across different systems. Extensive inspections were performed on the primary circuit, including volumetric and eddy current inspection of the instrumentation penetrations at the bottom of the reactor vessel.
Cleaning work was also carried out on the three steam generators using the technique known as 'sludge lancing' (sludge cleaning with projection lance), and the three safety valves of the pressurizer were replaced. ANAV's next refueling outage will be in the spring of 2026, when the 31st fuel recharge of unit 1 of the Ascó Nuclear Power Plant will take place.
