The 24.5 million euro investment for the refueling involved the temporary hiring of a thousand workers across various professional profiles, with more than half being local residents. The plant was synchronized back to the electrical grid on Wednesday at 10:20 PM.
During the shutdown, ANAV renewed 60 of the 157 elements that make up the reactor core. Furthermore, numerous essential preparatory activities were carried out for the plant's entry into Long-Term Operation (LTO), scheduled for December 2027, when it will reach 40 years of service.
In total, nearly 9,000 work orders were executed, and 25 design modifications were implemented across different plant systems. Notable tasks included a large number of inspections in the primary circuit, such as volumetric inspection of the reactor vessel and cleaning of the three steam generators using the 'sludge lancing' technique.
Safety diesel generator engines were also reviewed, and high-pressure turbine blades in the secondary circuit were partially replaced. ANAV's next scheduled outage will take place in the spring of 2026, when unit 1 of the Ascó nuclear power plant will undertake its 31st fuel refueling.
