Cultural entities from Catalonia and Valencia are organizing an homage in Mexico City to the writer and activist from Benissanet, Artur Bladé Desumvila, this coming Saturday, January 24.

The main event will take place at the Orfeó Català de Ciutat de Mèxic and will serve as the closing ceremony for the III Conference on Catalan, Valencian, Balearic, and Aragonese Ethnomusical Heritage. This project, promoted by the Tortosa entity Espai de So in collaboration with Grup Alacant, has been bringing popular culture from Catalan-speaking territories to America since 2022.

A cultural project that brings popular music, traditional dances, and the historical memory of Catalan-speaking territories to cultural centers across America.

This year's edition focuses on honoring Bladé Desumvila, who lived in exile in Mexico during the Franco dictatorship. The program includes dance workshops, conferences, performances by the Rondalla dels Ports, and a tribute to Republican exiles.
Prior to the main ceremony, several cemeteries in the Mexican capital will be visited to lay floral wreaths on the graves of prominent figures of the Catalan, Valencian, and Balearic exile. The conferences will also extend to other locations in Mexico and Guatemala, strengthening cultural and memory ties.
