Abandoned building partially collapses in Flix town center

Local authorities had already planned a forced demolition of the property due to its ruinous state and owner neglect.

A four-story vacant building on Castell street in Flix partially collapsed early Tuesday morning, prompting an emergency response from the Bombers de la Generalitat.

Firefighters arrived at the scene around 4:00 AM and confirmed no one was inside. The Flix Town Council had previously opened a ruin file for the property, owned by two banking real estate firms that failed to maintain the structure.

"We have a serious problem in many old town centers with abandoned buildings and missing owners; the law should give councils more agility to act."

Francesc Barbero · Mayor of Flix
The site is now expected to be transformed into a pedestrian connection between Pere de Castellvell street and Placeta de la Música as part of the local Neighborhood Plan.
