The town of Ascó, in Ribera d'Ebre, will host the 16th edition of Lleida Canta, which under the motto 'Lleida Canta per la Pau' (Lleida Sings for Peace) will bring together over a thousand singers on Sunday, April 26.

This event, considered the most multitudinous choral gathering in the Catalan calendar, aims to transform singing into a tool for reflection and collective commitment. This year's edition coincides with the 90th anniversary of the start of the Spanish Civil War and will use various spaces linked to the Battle of the Ebro as venues.
Music will serve as a common thread to remember the past and advocate for peace and the values of coexistence. The figure of Pau Casals, on the 150th anniversary of his birth, will be one of the symbolic references of the gathering, highlighting both his musical legacy and his commitment to human rights.
The program will include choral performances and a guided tour of historical sites of the Battle of the Ebro, such as the Poble Vell de Corbera d'Ebre, the Memorial de les Camposines, and various points within the municipality of Ascó. Participants, divided into groups, will visit these locations while performing pieces from their repertoire.
The day will begin in the morning with an institutional welcome and will culminate with a grand common sing-along at Joan XXIII Park in Ascó, followed by a popular lunch and traditional cultural activities.
The 'Lleida Canta per la Pau' is a joint initiative of the Coral Maristes Montserrat de Lleida, the Ascó City Council, and the Orfeó d'Ascó, with the support of the Catalan Federation of Choral Entities and other local institutions. Approximately 1,500 people are expected to mobilize, including singers, volunteers, and the public, with the participation of 39 choirs from 19 Catalan regions.
Beyond the musical aspect, Lleida Canta is presented as an integral cultural experience that values the heritage, landscape, and social fabric of the territory. In this edition, Ascó and the regions of Ribera d'Ebre and Terra Alta will become a meeting point where culture is placed at the service of memory and the construction of a peaceful future.
