This new acquisition, a PTT 17 hopper wagon, was donated by an electricity company through an agreement signed in November 2023. The piece, which had been used for coal transport from the Andorra mine (Teruel) to the thermal power plants of Andorra and Escatrón (Zaragoza), has been fully restored by the Association for the Preservation of Railway and Industrial Heritage of Móra la Nova and is now on public display.
The PTT 17 wagon is part of an initial series of 56 units. The first twenty were built in the Netherlands between 1950 and 1951, equipped with two-axle bogies, and seven of them included a screw brake and a brakeman's cabin. Subsequently, the same Dutch company manufactured 30 additional hoppers in 1953, six of which also featured a screw brake and cabin. Additionally, six hoppers with similar characteristics were built in the Escatrón workshops, utilizing existing materials.
The wagon's restoration was comprehensive and functional, including structural sanitation, replacement of rust-damaged elements, and repair of safety and running gear components. The process culminated with an anti-corrosion treatment and painting in the original 1951 scheme, even replicating the original construction plates. This work was supported by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The electricity company emphasized that this donation is part of its Shared Value Creation (CSV) projects, aiming for territorial integration and socioeconomic value for local communities. This initiative, which gives a second life to elements used in its operations, aligns with circular economy principles and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 4, promoting public education.
