Minister Óscar López announced this Tuesday that Spain's bid to host one of Europe's first AI gigafactories, featuring a site in Móra la Nova, is currently well-positioned.

Speaking at MWC26, the Minister for Digital Transformation expressed optimism about the project's prospects. López highlighted the ongoing discussions with the European Union and the strong corporate backing for the dual-site proposal.

"Spain has a good project with business support and I think we are on track to have one of the first AI gigafactories in Europe, with dual headquarters in Catalonia and Madrid."

The candidacy originally focused on Móra la Nova in the Ribera d'Ebre region, but was expanded in January to include San Fernando de Henares in Madrid. The final decision is expected to be announced by the summer.
